PHI 208 week 4 DQ 1
Week Four Discussion 1
This week you will have two discussions. Your Instructor will be choosing the discussions questions and posting them as the first posts in the discussion forums. The requirements for the discussion this week are a minimum of four posts on four separate days. The total combined word count for all of your posts, counted together, should be over 600 words. Be sure to answer all the questions in the prompt and to read any resources that are required to complete the discussion properly. In order to satisfy the posting requirements for the week, please complete your initial post by Day 3 (Thursday) and your other posts by Day 7 (Monday). We recommend that you get into the discussion early and spread out your posts over the course of the week. Be sure to reply to your classmates and instructor. Try to attempt to take the conversation further by examining their claims or arguments in more depth or responding to the posts that they make to you. Keep the discussion on target and try to analyze things in as much detail as you can.
Identify an area of contemporary life that has an impact on the natural environment and explain how the cultivation of "virtue" may make a difference to how one conducts oneself within that practice with respect to our environmental impact.
In other words, when it comes to our relation to the environment, what attitudes and behaviors would be characteristic of a virtuous person? (Conversely, what attitudes and behaviors may be characteristic of a person who lacks the virtues?) How can those who have not cultivated such virtues develop such a sense of character, so that they can reliably act and feel in appropriate fashion with respect to this issue?
Be sure to be as specific as possible in your analysis, and support your analysis with evidence from the week’s readings and media, including Hill’s article, “Ideals of Human Excellence and Preserving Natural Environments”.
