Persuasive Speech

STARTING THE PERSUASIVE SPEECH:   TOPIC AND THESIS EXERCISE

This week we begin a three-week process of developing your second major oral presentation – a persuasive speech.

The speech will be five (5) to seven (7) minutes in length when presented.

The Persuasive Speech is your Final Project and worth 15% of your Final Course Grade. Deliverables A Post that reveals the topic, the message, and research for your Persuasive Speech Activity Details Perform the following tasks:

Step 1: Review the text material about Persuasive Speaking

Read Chapter 17 in your text and do any additional individual research into persuasive speaking that you believe to be necessary.

Step 2: Develop a 3-part Post that accomplishes the following tasks:

1. Reveal the TOPIC you have chosen for your Persuasive speech. 

Please write a short paragraph telling me (1) why you have chosen this topic; (2) why you are qualified to speak about the topic; (3) and why you think that a modern audience needs to know about your topic.

2. Write the THESIS for your speech. 

The Thesis is the main message that you hope to communicate in your speech.  Your thesis should complete this sentence --  "At the end of my speech I want the audience to AGREE that.....

3. Develop your supporting material -- BIBLIOGRAPHY

Please list at least three (3) resources (websites, articles, books) that you have consulted and that you will use in your speech. Please make sure that I can access any website or resource if I choose to follow up.
