Persuasive Speech
1st Persuasive Speech Assignment
Time frame requirement: 7-9 minutes (Please see point deductions for going over/under the time limit: here).
1. Choose your own topic. It is recommended to choose something that is a arguable (not necessarily agreeable). You are not to tell the audience which side you personally believe. Your job is to find facts and arguments that build the case for that side of the argument.
2. Locate the persuasive speech outline and construct your speech in accordance to the outline--you will notice that you have more options in the persuasive in comparison to the informative. For each category on the outline, there is corresponding information of explanation to be found either in our book or in the course web pages.
3. Before delivering your speech, study the persuasive speech evaluation form, and check each category to make sure that you have fulfilled all of the criteria. Write your 2-4 page (double spaced, times new roman, size 12 font) self-appraisal based upon each category of the evaluation form. 2-4 pages does not count the cover page.
For your first persuasive speech, you take a particular position on an issue, and in your second persuasive speech, you take the opposite position on that same issue.
2nd Persuasive Speech Assignment
Time frame requirement: 7-9 minutes (Take note of point deductions for going over/under: here)
1. Use the same topic as your first persuasive speech. *Do not remind the audience that you recently gave a speech on the opposite topic.* Simply start this speech with your attention getter the same way you would with any other speech.
2. Again, use the persuasive speech outline and construct your speech in accordance to the outline--you will have to make some more choices in this persuasive in comparison to your other persuasive speech. For each category on the outline, there is corresponding information of explanation to be found either in our book or in the course web pages.
3. Before delivering your speech, study the persuasive speech evaluation form, and check each category to make sure that you have fulfilled all of the criteria.
Remember, for your second persuasive speech, you take the opposite position on an issue than that of your first persuasive speech. It is a good exercise--the goal is to get you thinking about your strategies of persuasion.
