When writing a persuasive essay, you must select a controversial or hotly debated topic, choose only one side of the argument and persuade the readers (using rhetorical devices and compelling evidence) that your opinion is the right one. Keep in mind this is NOT an information essay. You have to argue one side of an controversial topic. 

I encourage you to take the path less travelled by choosing an unpopular position on any given topic. Your aim is to come up with an argument; keep in mind, though, that the intention is not to offend any person or group of people.
