Discussion P1:
The first liability insurance company I looked at is Nursing Service Organization (NSO). NSO offers comprehensive coverage at a low cost with aggregate limits up to $6 million and $1 million per claim. Policy from NSO starts at $104 for W-2 employees. It endorsed by ANA. NSO may also reimburse legal fees in addition to your liability limitations if the claim is covered. Personal injury, license protection, HIPAA breaches, and sexual misconduct are all covered. Although Florida does not offer occurrence-form coverage for nurse practitioners, most states do. Additionally, coverage is portable and covers volunteer work. One con is that there are more complaints with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) than expected, suggesting there might be a problem with consumer satisfaction. Financial strength grade with AM Best is A.
The second liability insurance company I found is CM&F Group, which stands out for offering excellent customer service and having no NAIC complaints, which is a good sign of customer satisfaction. CM&F also obtained the highest financial strength rating from AM Best (A++), which means there’s an excellent change the company will fulfill its financial obligations. Even if you file a claim after your insurance period has ended, coverage is occurrence-form, covering claims for all incidents that happened while the policy was in effect. CM&F offers aggregate limits of up to $6 million per policy year and per-claim limits of up to $2 million. Price is around $102 for limits of $1 million per claim. Policies for nurses provide coverage for HIPAA defense, sexual misconduct, and license defense. For covered claims that go over and beyond the liability caps, CM&F will fund the defense costs. Additionally, coverage is portable and protects even if one volunteers or takes shifts elsewhere.
Also, discuss which agency you would use when you become a licensed PMHNP and provide your rationale.
After reading about the two different insurance agencies, I would choose to get my liability insurance through CM&F Group when I become a licensed PMHNP. This agency has outstanding customer service and highest financial strength rating. It also offers more per-claim limits of up to $2 million as opposed to $1 million from NSO and cheaper. They also cover defense costs for claims that go over the liability caps. This overall is a better option for NPs after comparing the two different agencies.
