One major takeaway from this course is how much of an impact you can have as a nurse leader by advocating for better nursing conditions through presentations such as the White paper and elevator pitch presentation. I know as a nurse, period, we have the power to advocate for us all, but as a leader you can present issues at higher levels on behalf of staff nurses.

CSLO #6 Analyze the role of nursing leaders and managers in fostering a satisfying and healthy working environment. (PSLO 4). I can apply this outcome to my practice through learning what I have in this course. I have learned that through adequate staffing conditions (through research of SWOT Analysis), that a leader plays a large role in creating a healthy working environment by listening and taking action when its needed. I will apply this learning when I am in a leadership position to promote a work culture of open communication, trust, and dependability.

Assess the personal, social, economic, and environmental determinants that influence the health status of individuals, families, groups, communities, and vulnerable populations. (PSLO 2, 5; GEC 3, 4; AACN 3).

The learning outcome I have chosen relates most to what I feel I have taken out of this course. Being able to accurately assess personal, social, economic, and environmental determinants that influence the health status of individuals, families, groups, communities, and vulnerable populations is important because you can effectively plan education and ways to prevent those determinants from affecting those individuals or groups. Throughout this course I feel I am ready to notice what my family and community is at risk for and properly educate them on those topics. I will apply this to my current nursing practice by assessing my patients knowledge of determinants based on the health status of the patient and the area they live in. I would provide proper education to the patient based on the answers and any new diagnosis, along with educating the family.
