After you have created your new discussion topic, you are required to read and respond to a minimum of two (2) of your classmates discussion topics. Think of your responses in terms of a contribution to a dialogue, not a writing exercise or a chat room. Elaborate a single idea and keep your post short but concise as if you were holding a conversation with your classmate(s). Incorporate what you have learned from the weekly reading material and from your own real-world experiences. Don’t forget to use proper APA citations and references whenever necessary.
Ariel: Scenario 2: You are an emergency manager in Kansas. Spring is right around the corner, and the possibility of severe weather will be increasing. What can you do to promote preparedness in your community?
Answer : I would community event on how to prepare for severe weather conditions. I would have local emergency preparedness fair where local emergency responses such as firefighters, EMT, new reporter, and other agencies like American red cross have free food, games and drinks. Provide weather alert systems for all residents to sign up from their mobile devices or tablet to be alerted of any local activities as technology has advanced and most individual aren't watching TV as often as we should. As always provide home emergency kits for free and during the events explain what essential items should be packed such as first aid kits, Important document, canned food, and medication such as Tylenol.
Tomesha: You are an Emergency Manager in Kansas. Spring is right around the corner, and the possibility of severe weather is increasing. What can you do to promote preparedness in your community?
The first thing I would do would be create a plan for Kansas City residents as well the Emergency staff. Everyone would have their job title, duties, all contacts and important information needed to carry out their position. I would bring awareness through all social media platforms. The news, local and state. I will make sure the surrounding counties are on standby just in case of a storm. I would make sure all residents are all signed up to receive text alerts or some kind of communication notifications whether via text or emails. I would also make sure there is an evacuation plan is in place. Communication is very important. Everyone would have to have precise communication in order for all duties to be performed accurately as well as the evacuation process to be carried out.

Quentin: There must definitely be immediate regulation of these laboratories. I am unsure why there aren’t clear regulations and constant monitoring of the activities in such labs. There are so many regulations, planning committees and responsibilities associated with preventing and attack response to biological warfare. However, there isn’t a single department dedicated to monitoring and supervising the creation of possible biological weapons. There must be screening capabilities created to monitor the development of enhanced DNA. There must also be left, and right limits established to safeguard the morality and consciousness of humanity. I think that there can be registries implemented to track the activities of these laboratories. They could develop a committee that falls under the supervision of the Department of Homeland Security. This committee can be deemed responsible for developing regulations for synthetic biological engineering.
Kanysia: According to the textbook, synthetic biology is "the assemblage of natural molecules into a system that acts unnaturally" (Ryan, 2016). There are quite a few things that can be done to mitigate the threat of unregulated laboratories conducting research using synthetic biology. There needs to be proper regulations set that clearly displays the proper ways to go about these labs. It would also be beneficial if synthetic biology labs required an approval stating that they meet whatever safety requirements that are set into place. Reference: Ryan, J. R. (2016). Book: M. M. Lowenthal (2022). Intelligence: from Secrets to Policy 9th edition. CQ Press.
Ramada: Hello, your insightful overview of post-9/11 intelligence reforms captures the crucial shifts in response to evolving global threats. The recognition of the need for intelligence reform is well-articulated, especially in the context of technology integration. The emphasis on information technology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics as essential tools in processing vast amounts of data for threat analysis reflects the adaptability required in modern intelligence operations. Your acknowledgment of the importance of interagency cooperation and international collaboration is crucial, considering the lessons learned from intelligence lapses. The concerns raised regarding privacy and sovereignty in the pursuit of global intelligence cooperation are apt, highlighting the delicate balance needed. The establishment of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) as a coordination mechanism underscores the commitment to enhancing communication among agencies. Your succinct summary effectively encapsulates the key elements of ongoing intelligence reforms, emphasizing the multifaceted nature of adapting to new challenges in a changing security landscape.
Serenity: Reform is necessary in intelligence to improve the efficacy of the community, address failures such as the Bay of Pigs & the Iran-contra affair and to regain focus within the intelligence community's structure in the post- Cold War age. Most times the discussion of intelligence reform tends to fit within two categories: the structure and processes. One issue that stood out to me that could possibly use reform is Stovepipes. In our textbook, stovepipes are agencies in a similar line of work that end up competing with each other which can become wasteful or harmful sometimes. Although there has been some cooperation between the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency(NGA) and the National Security Agency (NSA) , there will most likely not be a merger of the two agencies anytime soon. This brings to light a topic I discussed in a discussion a few weeks ago about market oversaturation.
Although some may dispute that the Sept. 11th attacks could have been avoided with intelligence, there was no possible way that there could be a specific intelligence warning about the attacks. This is put into perspective when considering WMD's in Iraq. The DCI at the time admitted that the intelligence analysis was incorrect. However, some in the intelligence community feel that there is no tolerance for incorrect answers. If the intelligence agency only focused on only correct analysis', the intelligence community would crumble. This is I am in agreeance with our textbook when it proposes that the intelligence community should focus on being as right as possible within reasonable limits.
