· TSWBAT summarize oral texts and identify their intended audiences.
· TSWBAT analyze oral texts (including famous speeches) using the concepts of the rhetorical triangle, Toulmin argumentation, and Monroe’s Motivated Sequence.
· TSWBAT Respond to speeches with thoughtful questions.
Assignment
. Critiques must demonstrate critical listening skills and rhetorical sensitivity as well as use established standards for critiquing oral presentations. Do not be over critical; try to balance strengths and weaknesses.
Some things to consider and comment on:
· Did the speech demonstrate the principles and techniques of public speaking?
o Did it fit the rhetorical situation especially the occasion?
o What was the speaker’s purpose? Did he/she achieve it?
· What was strong and what was weak about the speech?
· How might the speaker improve the speech?
