In recent years, courses in the humanities (art, history, philosophy, language, and literature) have decreased in favor of increased courses in the STEM fields. Yet, in addition to their own scientific research and writing, scientists have created best-selling books of both fiction and non-fiction and visual programs that bring their work to general audiences.

Watch the TED Talk by Mae Jemison, and, in a well-developed paragraph, discuss the roles writing and speaking have in your major. Be prepared to back up your point of view.
