I read your paper and edited only the first half because the first thing you need to revise is your structure.  Reread the assignment and you will see that you need to provide specific examples in your intro.  The author's own story is a good example but "many other factual pieces of evidence" doesn't tell me anything.  You need to be more specific.  For example, do you mean lynchings, or capital punishment, etc.  Pick a few and focus on these.


Then in your first body paragraph you need a topic sentence that goes directly to your first example.  The background is only helpful if it helps support Stevenson's thesis.  After the topic sentence give the information/evidence from the article that helps explain and support these examples.  Second body paragraph presents the second example, and so on.


Don't make assertions if you don't have evidence from the article to back them up.
