The final presentation will review much of the content of your various activities and reports, but it will also reflect on the learning process for the course.  As part of this assignment, you will also need to demonstrate that you can effectively deliver information in an oral presentation. Your presentation will need to have the following features:

  • A design that effectively uses color, font size, and visuals (and avoids excessive use of text and templates).
  • A title slide that introduces your team and provides basic information about your topic and states the purpose of the presentation.
  • An overview slide that outlines the presentation, identifying the major sections and the order of the sections (and thus the presentation).
  • A series of body slides that uses sentence titles (headline style), minimizes the use of text, and provides visuals that encourage dual coding.
  • A conclusion slide that summarizes the main points, facilitates audience comprehension of the main ideas, and cues the audience that the presentation is at an end.

In terms of content, you will want to base the majority of the presentation on content from your proposals, progress reports, and usability report. It will basically outline what you accomplished and the challenges you faced.  It might focus on the following areas:

  • Your understanding of the issue (problem) and how the project sought to contribute to solving the problem.
  • What you know about potential users and what makes for effective instructions?
  • How and why you wrote and designed the instructions as you did.
  • What challenges did you face and how did you address the challenges.
  • You could then focus on the research you conducted:
    • What is usability testing and why is it important?
    • What did the usability test show?
    • What changes did you make as a result of what you learned from the usability test.

Finally, you MUST include a reflective component in your presentation. This reflection focuses on what you learned. You should connect this to course objectives (see syllabus).

Students will:

  • Learn the basic principles of effectively structuring information for a variety of purposes.
  • Learn the basic principles of effectively structuring information for a variety of audiences.
  • Learn the basic principles of using an applicable document type.
  • Solve various communication problems individually.
  • Work in teams to complete a researched service learning project.
  • Highlights what you think worked about the course for you.
  • Diplomatically discuss how the course could be improved using the same project in the future.
