Many of the current criminal justice record keeping programs have been utilized for almost half of a century. For example, the NCIC was established in the late 1960’s and the NIBRS in the late 1980’s. It is apparent that their continued use over the years proves that these programs are vital to numerous criminal justice agencies. However, some of these programs appear to be ineffective.
Please assess the strengths and weaknesses of the various criminal justice record keeping programs (NCIC, NIBRS, LEDS, NLETS and CCH). If you could discontinue or make changes to any of these programs what changes if any would you make and why.
