1)   Edward Royce’s discussion on poverty divided the perspectives on poverty between two 

camps: the individualistic and the structural. Discuss and analyze the appeal/strengths and 

weaknesses of either perspective. (

2)   Michael Omi and Howard Winant present their theory of racial formation (defined on 

page 109). Discuss their theory and analyze it through 

at least

one of three key points: the 

evolution of “ethnicity theory” (mainly in Chapter 1), racialization (mainly in Chapter 4), 

and “colorblind” politics (mainly in Chapter 8, parts in Chapter 4)
