Informed Opinion Paper
Part 5A: Further Research and Conclusion Sections Introduction
Getting Started:
The final two sections of the paper provide an opportunity for self-reflection and assessment of the information and data you found regarding your topic. Did you find information missing? Was it difficult to locate information on a specific population, or aspect of the key terms you were investigating. Did the information you found change your opinion in any way?
Further Exploration Section:
This section of the assignment is a type of self-reflection that moves you from lower levels of cognitive processing to higher orders of evaluation and assessment. Remember, an essential aspect of higher education is developing critical thinking skills, and the cornerstone of critical thinking is actively and skillfully conceptualizing and applying information gathered to create your belief system (King, 2023).
A natural consequence of active self-reflection is the identification of other areas in our beliefs that we have yet to analyze or areas where we lack knowledge critically. Sometimes it is more important to know what knowledge is lacking than what knowledge has already been gained. Remember, employers are looking for individuals who can analyze and apply relevant information to situations to resolve issues and solve problems (National Association of Colleges and Employers, 2021).
Your reflection can be in the form of opposing research encountered, new or remaining questions, the gaps noticed in your inquiries, or even areas or populations that research may have overlooked. In addition, you may want to consider how additional research could further strengthen your understanding of the topic.
You will be asked to choose at least one of the following prompts to answer for this section. Be sure to answer all questions within the prompt.
1. Were there any sources you found that countered your opinion on the topic? If so, what was the counter argument? Cite the source that supported that opinion.
2. Were there any remaining questions that were left unanswered? Is there an area or population that research has overlooked? If so, what was that area or population?
3. What areas would you like to explore in more depth? Why?
Conclusion Section:
The conclusion is an opportunity to make a final statement on your topic. Stating your original question and summarizing the evidence found in your research provides the opportunity to validate your opinion. It is one last chance to demonstrate your knowledge and the importance of your ideas through a brief statement of your final thoughts, overall impressions, and support of or changes in your beliefs (The Writing Center, 2023).
Your Assignment Instructions:
Complete the Further Research and Conclusion sections of your paper.
