Prompt 3:  Siddhartha and the Four Noble Truths  First, familiarize yourself fully with the Four Noble Truths and the  Eightfold Path. I have linked to several reputable online resources that  explain these concepts (Buddhanet being the most thorough and  thoughtful), but you can also branch out to find more sources if you  like. Once you are familiar with these concepts, interpret the novel as  an exploration of these Four Noble Truths.  Interpretive Question to Answer: Does Siddhartha′s life exemplify the  Four Truths? Does Hesse explore suffering as an unavoidable fact of life  as we know it; attachment and clinging as a cause of this suffering;  freedom from this suffering; and the path to that freedom?  Source Requirement: Be sure to utilize  A reputable Four Noble Truths resource. Hermann Hesse′s Siddhartha. Two additional quality outside sources of your choosing. From Pursuing  Happiness, The Dalai Lama′s and Ricard′s pieces may be useful. Chödrön,  Fronsdal may also be of particular use.
