For the final  project you will have the opportunity to demonstrate what you have  learned about project management applications and case analysis by  writing a case study based on your experience or observation of a real  world project. It needs to have both qualitative and quantitative  elements. You will also write a teaching note as an addendum to the  case. We’re going to use the instructions from, “How to Write a Business Case  Study” published by the William Davidson Institute at the University of  Michigan. I believe they do a good job explaining what is required. This  is a new type of assignment for you and I do not want you to be  overwhelmed by it. It is not meant to be confusing or overly complex.  The important elements are: • Identify one or more learning outcomes for your case. This can be  connected to one or more topics that we’ve covered during the course. An  easy way to make sure you’re on track is to identify in the Teaching  Note which Knowledge Area your case covers and which week it could be  used in our course. This is part of the Prewriting Stage. • Make certain your case requires both qualitative and quantitative  elements. Be sure to identify what these elements are in the Teaching  Note. For the quantitative element, recommend a project management tool  the person analyzing the case should use. • You do not have to write your case in APA format! This is a narrative.  It needs to be well-written and that probably means using the third  person voice as with the other cases you’ve been analyzing. Other than  that, you have the freedom to be creative. If images or data are  required, include them (and cite your sources if appropriate). • Normally in a case study, you will interview the people involved. You  are welcome to do this or you can “interview yourself” if you have the  information needed to write the case. • Make sure to change the names of the company and people involved. You  do not have to worry about the legal matters discussed in the  instructions. Your case will not be used outside this assignment and I  will be the only one reading it.  • Follow the instructions, but don’t go overboard (Did I really just say  that?!?). It’s a different kind of assignment. I hope you have fun with  it and I get to read some interesting cases. It’s not meant to be a  make or break final assignment. It’s meant to be cumulative and show  what you know. I recognize that this is new to you. I am looking for you to do a  complete, well-written case. In other words, do your best and your best  should be good enough. Post any questions you have on the case in the café discussion so they  stand out from our Week Seven discussion. The best advice I can give you is that you need to take some time to  read the instructions and really think about what you want to do. Diving  in without the Prewriting Stage will result in you working much harder  than you need to and not doing as well as you can.
