One of the following research topics will be allocated per group. 1) Indigenous rights: from 1967 Referendum to the Uluru Statement from the Heart. Describe the key elements of the 1967 Referendum. Explore the Government policy context and the Indigenous resistance and rights movement that led to this significant ‘key moment’ in history, particularly the Freedom Rides. In your analysis, consider if this Referendum lived up to its promise to transform the civil and political rights of Indigenous Australians. (This is what your help is needed for-my part of the presentation ) : Show how this led to key elements of the current campaign for ‘Constitutional Recognition’ for Indigenous Australians. Explore this proposed Referendum in relation to debates on important concepts such as Racial Discrimination, Treaty and Sovereignty. Pictures and Indigenous may be used within the presentation.
