ELIKA - RESPOND NO MORE THAN 200 WORDS
Congrats on making it to the last week of this class!
Business to business (B2B) e-commerce gives companies a digital channel that helps conduct transactions with other companies and businesses. It is often done through an online catalog, an integrated procurement system, or a customer portal. There are many benefits and incentives for B2B e-commerce. They create greater efficiency and lower transaction costs. They give customers 24/7 self service as business buyers as they are able to place orders, re-order items that are common, see inventory availability, and review product details without a sales representative. It allows for a larger market reach as a digital storefront can reach customers beyond their immediate region.
B2B e-commerce can also have some drawbacks. One is that the up front costs and ongoing costs as a company has to be able to budget for development, cybersecurity, maintenance, and continuous improvements. This can be especially difficult for smaller firms. B2B e-commerce can involve things like contract pricing through negotiation, purchase orders, discounts based on quantity, and other complex rules that are different from other consumer transactions. B2B e-commerce also depends on real time and accurate information. This means the site used must be integrated properly, but integrating with already existing systems can be difficult.
For my final digital marketing plan, I chose to market for a non-existent business called Richmond Bloom Bar. It is a build your own bouquet style flower shop located in Richmond, Virginia. It was difficult to come up with a plan for a business that doesn't exist as I had to think of every little thing. From fully fledging out the business to coming up with a marketing plan for the pre-opening, opening, and first 6 months of the business. I actually feel really accomplished by the website I created and for the idea itself. I think it's unique and can actually be successful in it's marketing if it were to become a real business. Thinking of things I included like the bloom reminder program, flower quizzes on the website, and ambassadorships makes me feel like it would have real impact or reach. The city of Richmond is also very intertwined with VCU's school of the arts and a local friend even pitched the idea of letting local potters sell their pottery and market through the flower shop too. It really made me feel like it could be real business.

B2B E-Commerce and Final Course Reflection
Business to business e-commerce offers several benefits for organizations that want to improve efficiency, expand their reach, and develop stronger relationships with other businesses. One of the biggest advantages is convenience. Companies can use digital platforms to place orders, manage inventory, communicate with suppliers, process payments, and access account information without relying entirely on traditional sales interactions. B2B e-commerce can also reduce administrative costs by automating repetitive processes and allowing businesses to serve customers beyond normal operating hours. Laudon and Traver (2014) explain that e-commerce technologies can reduce transaction costs and create more efficient connections between buyers and sellers. For businesses, those efficiencies can become especially valuable when managing large or recurring orders.
Another benefit is the opportunity to reach customers outside of a company's immediate geographic market. A business that once depended primarily on local sales representatives or distributors can use e-commerce to connect with retailers, wholesalers, suppliers, and other organizations in different markets. Digital platforms can also provide valuable data about purchasing patterns, order frequency, and customer preferences. That information can help companies personalize offers, improve inventory decisions, and strengthen long term B2B relationships.
However, there are also considerations businesses should evaluate before adopting a B2B e-commerce model. Technology costs, cybersecurity, data privacy, system integration, and employee training can create challenges. B2B transactions can also be more complex than traditional consumer purchases because businesses may require negotiated pricing, bulk discounts, purchase orders, credit terms, customized products, or approval processes. Companies must make sure that introducing technology improves the purchasing experience rather than making established business relationships more difficult. I also believe businesses should be careful not to remove the human element completely. Technology can make transactions more efficient, but relationships and trust can still be extremely important in B2B markets.
Developing my final digital marketing plan for Crown & Coil Hair Care helped me understand how many different pieces must work together to create an effective digital strategy. One of my biggest challenges was narrowing down the number of strategies I wanted to use. Social media, SEO, email marketing, paid advertising, AI, personalization, educational content, website design, and performance measurement can all provide value, but a new business cannot realistically prioritize everything at once. I had to think more strategically about which channels should receive the most attention initially and how the company could expand as it gained customers and revenue.
One of my biggest accomplishments was developing Crown & Coil beyond simply being a fictional company for an assignment. As the course progressed, I was able to establish a target market, brand identity, website, social media strategy, Hair Education content, email strategy, personalization opportunities, KPIs, and a plan for connecting those elements throughout the customer journey. Creating the website was especially rewarding because I could visually see many of the concepts we discussed throughout the course come together in one place.
The biggest lesson I will take from this course is that digital marketing is much more than posting content or building an attractive website. Every channel should have a purpose, support the overall business goals, and provide something valuable to the customer. Whether the customer is an individual consumer or another business, successful digital marketing ultimately depends on creating value, building trust, measuring results, and being willing to adjust the strategy as customer needs and technology continue to evolve.
