Module 8 Overview
This week students review the role of the legislative branches of government in establishing policy. Additionally, students synthesize health policy content by providing a comprehensive policy proposal incorporating identification of a health issue, analysis of the current policies, and evaluation of gaps with policy problem solutions as presented to a legislator or their team. The student will demonstrate issue and presentation expertise and nursing leadership acumen with an evidence-based ethically proposed policy for a global health problem that also affects the US.
As noted in our course readings, a variety of national and international documents guide policy development within the US and across the globe. In the United States, Healthy People 2030 has provided goals and a vision for “a society in which all people live long, healthy lives” (Healthy People 2030 | health.gov, n.d.). guiding document to inform health policy at the international level. In its global health initiative, the United States outlines health and human services priorities that guide policies related to funding and program development for more than 80 countries (KFF, 2017).
Finally, at the international level, the United Nations guides the efforts of local governments and external funding sources to meet not only the health needs but also the social needs of developing countries (Merson, Black, & Mills, 2012).

Create a PowerPoint presentation that addresses each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. Use clear headings that allow your professor to know which bullet you are addressing on the slides in your presentation. Support your content with at least SIX (6) sources throughout your presentation. Make sure to reference the citations using the APA writing style for the presentation. In Module 6, you began this assignment by contacting the office of your state senator or Congressional representative and scheduling an appointment. (These politicians have local offices within your voting district where you should be able to visit with them or present through Zoom or other electronic means).
I met with “Sandy Nurse: NYC Council Member for District 37 (Bushwick, Brownsville, East New York in Brooklyn). I spoke to her during Gotham's health fair in the community on 8/7/2026
At your meeting, the agenda should have included:
· your concerns about a global population health policy issue that also affects the US, and
· the progress that is being made through policy decisions.
· Additionally, based on your knowledge of the health issue, you proposed a new policy or adjustment to a current policy to close the current gaps and meet the population’s needs.
To prepare for this meeting, you reviewed what Congress has been working on to improve the health of all global populations. As a nurse leader, you were to be prepared to discuss how to influence change through the strategies you have prepared. A summary of this meeting needs to be written up and future plans discussed as a part of this assignment presentation.
