Nursing 473: Synthesis Paper Assignment Guidelines

In this paper, the student will develop an organized description of the nursing capstone project using the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Model for Improvement’s Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) Cycle and nursing process as a framework:

• Identify a nursing practice issue or problem • Develop a plan to address that problem • Envision implementation of the plan • Envision evaluation of the outcome

The paper, written in APA format, should be approximately 3000 words or 10 pages in length (excluding the title page, reference list, and appendix) and is worth 100 points; an abstract is not required.

• An annotated reference list will be completed to assist the student in selecting appropriate references to support the project.

• Rough drafts of Parts I and II will be submitted to the instructor for guidance and feedback by the due dates listed on the course schedule. It is expected that the student will take advantage of instructor feedback and utilize appropriate resources to produce a high-quality, comprehensive product.
