One of the Cornerstones of Azusa Pacific University is Service. Your Faith Integration paper (written in English) will focus on how you will incorporate your faith or worldview into your diverse community of service as a nurse practitioner. In this formal research paper, I want you to substantiate your thoughts with viable academic resources (minimum of two academic resources which one of the resources can be the Bible).
Challenge yourself to look at your career as a nurse practitioner looking through the lens of a cultural advocate and holistic health provider. Look at ways on how you can impact your patients or your colleagues on a cultural level and on a faith/worldview level.
For example, each week you have been challenged to reflect on faith and cultural views. Utilize what you already know and what you have learned to expand upon your outlook on how to treat patients that are from a different cultural than your own. Take one aspect of faith (what motivates you to make an impact in your world) and integrate it into your culturally diverse medical practice.
Guidelines:
• Create a thesis based on your interest in nursing. Focus on the “why” you want to write about this area of medicine and how your personal faith/worldview/perspective will help motivate you to make a difference.
• Make this paper personal. You are permitted to use the 3rd person when writing this paper.
• Two or more resources are required to substantiate and support your thesis statement. One viable resource you can use is the Bible.
• The Faith Integration paper should include: o An APA formatted title page o Two or more pages of content

Examples of thesis statements:
• Focus on the increase of cases of Latino patients with latter stages of cancer. Come up with strategies on how to demonstrate the importance of preventative care. Include methods of approach that would include holistic care: language services, sensitivity to traditions, cultural norms, and personal beliefs. How would your personal culture, belief and traditions help you to convey this vital information?
• Share a personal experience (write in the first person) on your own personal growth since becoming a nurse/nurse practitioner and working with culturally diverse patients. Give an example on how you have grown as a person and how your personal faith/belief/worldview has changed. What challenges are you facing in becoming a culturally competent nurse? What ways assist you in becoming more culturally aware or sensitive? Does your faith/belief/worldview influence the way you treat your patients?
• Research the various methods/approaches/training modules that are available to healthcare providers to increase their cultural awareness and/or cultural sensitivity. Share your thoughts on the pros and cons of these methods/approaches/training modules. Based on your personal faith/belief/worldview, how can increasing your cultural knowledge help you understand your patients better? You can include methods on how to raise patient compliancy rates and patient satisfaction scores.
Each week you will submit a section of your paper for review.
• Week 7 – Submit one or two sentences stating your thesis or main idea for your Faith Integration paper. (10 points)
• Week 8 - Submit the title of your paper and two or more academic resources (that you will use for your paper) in APA format (10 points)
• Week 9 - Submit an outline (10 points) • Week 10 - Submit introduction and literature review (10 points) • Week 11- Finalized and revised paper (35 points)
o You must also include a Title page (4 points), correct APA formatting (5 points), correct APA reference page (5 points)

Thesis / Main Idea
Guided by the biblical call to serve the vulnerable, I will integrate my faith with culturally sensitive nursing practice to address health disparities in immigrant and minority populations through preventive screenings, patient education, and respectful family-centered care.
Faith-Driven Service: Integrating Christian Values to Reduce Health Disparities Among Immigrant Communities
Since becoming a nurse and now advancing as a Family Nurse Practitioner student, I have experienced tremendous personal and spiritual growth. As an immigrant from Iran, I came to the United States alone, learning to navigate a new culture, language, and healthcare system without the support of my family at first. Those early years taught me empathy in a way no textbook could. Now, as my parents have recently joined me here, I see them face the same challenges I once did—struggling with appointments, insurance, and understanding medical instructions. Witnessing their experience has deepened my awareness of the barriers immigrant and minority populations face every day in accessing care.
Being born and raised in a Muslim family instilled in me strong values of compassion, humility, and respect for others. Over time, my Christian faith has built upon those same principles, shaping my worldview into one that emphasizes service, love, and the dignity of every person. Working at Cedars-Sinai, I care for many culturally diverse patients, and I often see reflections of my own story in them. Early in my career, I focused mostly on providing correct treatments and following clinical guidelines. With experience and faith, I learned that true nursing care is holistic—it includes understanding each patient’s beliefs, traditions, and family dynamics.
One moment that shaped my growth was caring for a Spanish-speaking patient who relied heavily on her faith and family for strength during recovery. By taking time to listen through an interpreter, involving her loved ones in care, and showing genuine respect for her beliefs, I saw how trust and healing grew hand in hand. That experience reminded me that cultural sensitivity is not about knowing every custom—it’s about approaching every person with humility and openness.
The greatest challenge I face in becoming a culturally competent nurse is balancing the fast pace of hospital life with the need to truly connect and understand each patient’s cultural background. What helps me grow is continuous self-reflection, prayer, and learning from my diverse coworkers and patients. My faith calls me to serve the vulnerable with love and integrity, while my immigrant experience allows me to see each patient not as “different,” but as someone deserving of understanding and belonging.
