 The National Academies of Sciences Engineering Medicine (formally the Institute of Medicine) in its report Health Professions Education: A Bridge to Quality (2003) presented Core Competencies for Health Professionals (Chapter 3) as it relates to recruitment and retention of staff. Having qualified staff that is satisfied with work conditions impacts the core competencies of effective patient-centered care, interprofessional teamwork, quality improvement, effective use of informatics, and whether or not staff is willing to apply evidence-based practice.
