Exegetical-Historical Paper!

In 5-7 double-spaced pgs., you will select one doctrine, development, or practice from the ancient, medieval, or early modern Church and will assess it as to its Biblical accuracy. The goal here is twofold, 1) to bring your exegesis to bear upon Church history, and 2) to understand the power that historical circumstances play in shaping our beliefs and practices. The paper will be organized into four parts, 1) an introduction, 2) exegesis concerning the subject, 3) a consideration of the historical circumstances that led to the subject, and 4) a conclusion. The goal of the introduction is to clearly state your chosen subject (e.g., predestination) and whether it is Scriptural. Next, your exegesis section (approx. 2 ½ pgs.) will set out to prove your argument from Scripture (e.g., why predestination is or is not Scriptural). Here you will engage biblical theology and the tools of exegesis, (i.e., commentaries, dictionaries, concordances, and especially Accordance Bible Software) to defend your claim. (Ensure that you cite all the sources.) Your next section (approx. 2 ½ pgs.) will then assess the historical circumstances that led to the doctrine, development, or practice. If, for instance, the Church leaders deployed something that has less basis in the Bible, why, then, did they deploy it? Discuss the historical circumstances that led to this change or implementation. Lastly, you will have a conclusion that restates your findings.
