CLASSMATE'S POST
Centralized and decentralized forms of government be opposites, where one form keeps the power between a few authority figures/institutions/executives whereas the other delegates that power to multiple institutions. Because few people can make the necessary decisions for government and societies, I think that most would favor a decentralized government for each state. By doing so, there is a great sense of balance between the people. In addition, there are certain instances where decisions need to be made on a case by case basis, depending on the place or factors and a centralized government could not easily adapt or bend to these variables as much as a single state or institution could. Sharing the power is also important because it prevents the abuse or overuse of power by few people; when it is necessary for a small number of people to hold power, that is one thing. But when no good or gain is coming from those individuals holding power, they are simply nothing more than people with power. The purpose of decentralizing government is to delegate authority to the people, allowing them to take part in the decision-making process. All in all, I think that a mixture of both would have produce the greatest benefit to society; but if one had to be preferred over another, I am certain decentralization would trump centralization.
