NEED IN 12 HOURS

What are your general thoughts about the public education system in America today?  Is it pretty good?   Does it need a major overhaul? Pick a major issue facing the American school system (inequality, dropping out, standards, school choice, etc.)  Describe the problem and include what you think a solution might be.

The public education system in America needs a complete overhaul.  There are so many problems that I am sure that I can't list them all.  American schools stress children out with standardize testing. Every child learns different and at various times; there should not be a test to see if they fit in with everyone else.  My son has been tested four times a year for two years so far.  Three tests to see where they were and what the teacher needed to focus on for each child and then the final test to see if they have learned to take a test.  Common core math is another issue, I can't help my child with his homework because the way I was taught he doesn't understand and tells me if he does it that way he will get it wrong.  There are good teachers out there and they deserve to be able to help children learn.  Another issue, which is different by state, is the amount of movement and resource classes that the children are exposed too.  Children should be able to move around, that is what children do, if they can move around more or go outside then they would have a better time learning and be more open to the new information.  

I think that if children were not as stressed about school they would enjoy it more.  There should also be a way to learn at your own pace.  Each child learns differently, and those areas should be nurtured instead of stunted.  Standardized testing should be taken out and children should be introduced to different arts and made to explore their likes.  Times are changing, and children are still taught like they will be going to work in a factory when they leave school.  The only thing in our society that has not changed is how school is run and it is time for a change.
