Discussion 1 (Jacqueline)

The definition of logic model, per O’Neal-McElrath (2019, p.13), is “a valuable tool that provides a visual illustration of the flow of activities that will produce the desired results by the organization or program.” Simplified, following a logical path, if step X is completed, it will lead to the results of Y. Crisan and Pop, (2016, p.23) consider the logic model to be useful because it is flexible and can be adjusted or modified to accommodate the time and conditions of the current situation. A simplistic breakdown of the logic model would be Inputs, which would be program implementation; Outputs, which indicates reach & adoption of plans, and effectiveness; and Outcomes, which are the effectiveness & maintenance of the plan (Rubenstein, et al., 2023, p.5).

The VetFund Foundation uses a logical model in executing their plans to provide veterans with housing, employment assistance, and job training. The goal of the foundation is to reach out to veterans and assist them in adjusting to civilian life. This is done by supporting and working with organizations that provide the necessary services for veterans. One organization is the New Directions for Veterans (NDVets). NDVets meets with vets, provides temporary housing while working with them to find appropriate, permanent living conditions, and helps to establish a home-base. One of the first questions employers ask is about home address and stability. This is even more important in the case of a veteran, to create stability and consistency, which employers look at as part of determining the reliability of an employee. While finding the veteran a home, the next step would be to assist them in applying for a job. This may be providing training for a position or trade or assisting in employment applications and interview processes. My ideal goals are to help each veteran to be successful in obtaining a home and a job.

These steps follow in the logic model, with input, output, and outcome.

INPUT OUTPUT OUTPUT OUTCOME

Meeting with housing navigator and staff

Assessing housing needs Locate and establish appropriate accommodations

Fewer homeless veterans

Provide temporary housing Collaborate with VA and other service providers

Assist in skills training or employment application process

Employment and productive lifestyle
