3. The play Mulatto and the short story “Father and Son” treat essentially the same plot.  But the different genres of these two literary works enable Langston Hughes to emphasize quite different features—psychological, political, historical, moral—of the tragic story they tell.  Analyze what you consider to be the key areas of overlap and divergence between the two texts.  Which—the play or the story—do you find more moving, and why?
