Health information technology is constantly developing and leveraging sciences from other fields such as information systems and computer science. Integrating these approaches into clinical information systems for the use of predictive analytics, clinical decision support features, and evidence-based rules is helping improve patient outcomes.

Case Assignment

Technology is changing and evolving. Conduct a search of the Internet, library, or print literature to identify several new or emerging technologies for maintaining health records. Prepare a 10-slide PowerPoint to explain the following questions:

1. Describe each technology and discuss its potential use in the management of health care information or the development of health care information systems.

2. How do these technologies target and try to improve patient outcomes?

3. List three major inpatient clinical information systems and explain how technology enables these systems to deliver improved care.

4. Identify two outpatient clinical information systems and explain how these systems differ from inpatient clinical information systems.
