Assignment 3: Mobilizing for Action

In this assignment, you will review the health objectives from the Healthy People 2020 (http://www.healthypeople.gov/2020/default.aspx) program, choose one that applies to your community or municipality, conduct further research on how you can mobilize for action, and then prepare a paper to describe a plan of action for your community.

Part 1: Research

• Review the health objectives in the topics index listed on the "2020 Topics & Objectives – Objectives A-Z" page of the HealthyPeople.gov Web site. (http://www.healthypeople.gov/2020/topicsobjectives2020/default.aspx).
  • Choose an objective that applies to your community or municipality.
  • Determine why you think the objective (or goal) that you chose was included as an objective on the HealthyPeople.govWeb site.
  • Consider the rationale (need and pressures) for a national focus on the objective you chose.
• Research the size of your community and identify the number of people that would be affected by the issue you chose.
• Using the module readings, Argosy University online library resources, and Internet sources, research how you can mobilize public health administration and community stakeholders for action.

Part 2: Paper

Prepare a “mobilizing for action” paper and address the following:

• Give a brief description of the community that you have chosen to focus on and identify the objective you selected from Healthy People 2020.
• Explain why you think the objective (or goal) that you chose was included as an objective on the HealthyPeople.gov Web site.
• Explain the rationale (need and pressures) for a national focus on the objective you chose.
• Detail the size of your community and identify the number of people that would be affected by the issue you chose.
• Conceptualize an approach, program, or strategy that could help your community contribute to the objective or goal.
• List the groups and/or individuals who might be interested in seeing a change in this health issue. Explain how you might recruit them as stakeholders in an effort to implement change.
• List the benefits and barriers of stakeholder participation.
• Include strategic steps (mileposts and decision points) to implement your strategy.
• Explain how your plan creates an alliance, collaboration, or partnership for the community, and describe how it will increase organizational capacity for various contributors.
• Include references to substantiate any facts or support any arguments you present.

Write a 3–5-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
