Choose a country that is NOT familiar to you. Research the culture of that country and post a brief summary of what a U.S. manager would need to know about contextual, legal, ethical, social, nonverbal, age, and gender differences in order to conduct business effectively in that country. Be sure to identify the country's cultural context (i.e., is the country a high-context or low-context culture?) in your summary.

  • Tanzania is the country I have chosen because of the vast wilderness it has to offer. It has rich soil great for growing produce and other crops. The people of Tanzania speak two languages which are English and Swahili. Tanzania is known for its marvelous Serengeti National Park which is home to the big five animals: elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino. It is also home to the Kilimanjaro National Park, which is Africa's highest mountain top. So if a U.S. manager wants to do business in their country he should learn how to speak their language and know all about their laws, customs, and how they do things. Because you would not want to upset some of the locals because you may have not intentionally offended someone without actually knowing. Be sure to know what to look for when looking for people who can help you do business in their country so you will not end up hiring a kid who looks like an adult. Learn people's age and gender you will be around. Building a relationship with the people will allow you to get an understanding of how you would want to establish business and set up a base that will benefit the people of the country and also you and your company.
