Module 1: Discussion

Metropolitan America is characterized by a pattern of population distribution where minorities and low-income persons often reside in high density, deteriorating inner-city areas; and higher income persons live in low density, wealthy suburban areas. answer the question "How did things get this way?” Specifically answer:

1) Discuss the most important historical factors (e.g., shifts in society, policy decisions, etc.) that have created this state of affairs. Provide evidence from the readings/films (and other sources if needed) to support your arguments. 

2) Discuss what you believe are the most important factors that explain this state of affairs. Looking back at the history, among these forces, do any stand out above the rest? Why? Use evidence to support your arugments.
