Modern Times

In our own society, it can be hard enough for a film to persuade people or certain institutions to change or be changed. In a conformist society such as contemporary Japan, what do you think a filmmaker would need to do in order to have an effect on his or her society? How would a film need to successfully communicate its message and change the minds of an audience resistant to change? What about in China, where censorship is much more prevalent?
