SOCIAL CHANGE AND EVALUATION STRATEGY
An op-ed is a communication tool that a leader can use to communicate about what they value for their positive social change strategy, why and how they support their opinion, and that their strategy has scholarly support from peers. An op-ed is not just an ambiguous comment or a falsified piece of information—it must be supported by evidence-based facts that lead to why you would strategize in such a way and how the evidence backs up your opinion. It is an effective, brief way to give audiences an overview of your social change strategy and why it is important to the organization. For the field of public administration, op-eds can be found in print and/or online, including public administration journals, think tanks (e.g., Brookings Institute, RAND Corporation), peer-reviewed newspapers with editorial review (e.g., The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post), and institutes/agencies (e.g., Institute of Health Improvement, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality). As you identify an op-ed, make sure the journals have editors and a peer-review and/or editorial board, and avoid those sources that are known for having falsified information and/or do not have a legitimate peer-review and/or editorial board.
For this Discussion, you create and post an evidence-based op-ed to support your ideas for social change related to a specific nonprofit or public/government organization’s mission using an evaluation strategy.

Op-Ed Samples Op-ed Example:
Vaccinations There is a long and statistically proven track record for the use of vaccinations as an evidence-based precaution against viruses around the globe. Vaccinations protect populations and provide healthy environments for public health (CDC, 2021; WHO, 2021). By using vaccinations, we keep the majority of the population well and out of acute care settings. Importance of Vaccinations Vaccinated people have a greatly improved chance of staying well and productive (ANA, 2022). When we talk about population and public health, it involves the choice an individual makes and how these choices affect the rest of one’s family, community, and world health. So, we each play a very important role in maintaining population and public health (ANA, 2022). When populations are healthier, the economy thrives, and each individual has more support to be successful in their personal and professional lives. Conclusion As you think about the decisions you make for your health, think about the consequences, short and long term, and the ramifications that will eventually affect you in some form. We all depend on each other in many ways that we never consider until we no longer have each other as support. Vaccinations help us thrive by keeping communities healthy and active to go about our daily lives (CDC, 2021; WHO, 2021; ANA, 2022).
