Assignment 2: Misconceptions of Evolution 

Please select ONE (1) chapter from “ The top 10 myths about Evolution” by Cameron M. Smith and Charles Sullivan. The chapters available on Blackboard are: 

1. Myth One: Survival of the Fittest 

2. Myth Two: It’s just a Theory 

3. Myth Three: The Ladder of Progress 

4. Myth Six: People come from Monkeys 

Goal

In this assignment, you are going to explore how some of the main misconceptions of human evolution are represented in popular culture. 

Ask

Search for at least ONE (1) example of the misconception you selected in popular culture/media. You can select anything from magazine articles, television programs, advertisements, song lyrics, images, and social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) memes. Write a  short summary of why the example you selected is a good representation of such misconception. Be sure to attach the example  (image, link, etc.) you selected and refer back to one of the chapters in your essay ( 300-500 words). 

Format Requirements

Type the report using a  standard 11-point font and  black ink. Lines should be  single spaced with 1-inch margins on all sides, and  pages numbered sequentially. Remember to include a bibliography/references cited page that identifies any sources (including chapters of the book) you used in preparing you report. Also, be sure you include your name. 

Please upload a  single document  (either word or pdf) on Blackboard containing  both essay and the example you chose.  For instance, if it is an image, just include the image; if it is a website, take a screenshot and include the web link.  Submit a digital copy by the deadline.

Be sure your assignment is readable on Blackboard after submission! 

 Extra credit:  

· +5% for selecting a SINGLE example that portrays TWO (2) or more misconceptions (with explanation!)
