My time spent at a community college has enabled me to gain the knowledge and disciplined I need to afford me success in my upper level courses at the university level. Within the small setting at my community college, I have been able to develop extraordinary social skills by collaborating with my peers within study groups that I sought out for all of my courses. Throughout my journey at a community college I have gained the skill and perseverance to seek help mainly from my instructors; now I am not a bit shy about asking question in class or attending my professor’s office hours to make sure I have a clear understanding, of the topic at hand. I have even made some meaningful relationships with my professors that have resulted in some of them, even become my mentors. Most of my courses I have taken are very demanding and have required exceptional time management skills in order to secure the highest marks. A lot of my courses have required me to learn and master new disruptive technologies and has empowered me in my ability to complete my tasks and projects more efficiently and timely. Although my intended major is in the STEM field I have strived to complete the IGETC requirements ensuring that I not just STEM smart but also have a great exposure and understanding of the arts and humanities, as they related to the context of the sciences. Managing to take high unit course loads that included multiple demanding disciplines, insures me that I will thrive at the university level demanding environment. As a community college student I have not just optimized my learning skills but I have experienced what it is like to teach and coach others. As a teachers aid in the chemistry department I have been able to tutor and assist students with their course work, and this mentorship experience proved very beneficial to me as a person and student. A University should give me the final experience, so I can take all of these learned skills to the next level, in preparation for a career in STEM.
