Paragraph 1
Which of the four things suggested to create a culture that is compatible with change do you believe is the most important and why?
In every organization there must be change in order to successes. An organization cannot stay the same and except to keep up or move forward with its competitors. Change is necessary.
Establish the vision. When a change is in the works I think that it is important that you show everyone involved the possible success rate as well as the changes that are about to take place. When people can see what the long-term benefits might be they will likely be more inclined to accept the upcoming changes.
The article also states that when we expect something positive it will likely be just that, positive.
How have your past leaders shared their vision for change with you?
My past leaders prepared me for upcoming changes by allowing me to slowly adapt to how the incoming command would expect things to be done. All commanders had a particular way of doing things from how they wanted their reports done to how we were to communicate with them, by email, phone and how often. This let me accept the change easier but I was having to work with two different commanders and two different styles of doing things.
What could they have done differently to be more proactive to change?
Personally I would have preferred that the changes take place fast and quick, having to juggle two different working styles just added extra pressure as well as time consuming. This just made the upcoming change slower and dreaded.
Paragraph 2
Which of the four things suggested to create a culture that is compatible with change do you believe is the most important and why?
Anticipating maintenance. The reason why I find this to be the most important of the four suggestions is because it is a good expectation to set when going through change. Currently I work for a technology company and change in processes, product and services is constant. This can be very frustrating and even disheartening when you’re working diligently on a project and its thrown the waste side before its launched. Many employees choose not to stay because there is so much change so I personally think that if management set the expectation and culture that change takes constant maintenance there would be less turnover.
How have your past leaders shared their vision for change with you?
Leadership at Verizon does a very good job of communication when it comes to change. Many times we have all-hands-on townhall meetings to discuss these changes and roadmaps are presented to communicate our direction. I find this communication very valuable because employee see where the company and their projects are headed giving them incentive to get inspired.
What could they have done differently to be more proactive to change?
Leadership could be more proactive about change by communicating more. During times of change I don’t think you can ever have enough communication especially when the change is huge like an acquisition. Although this may seem like being stuck between a rock and a hard spot for management because you can’t always communicate all change before decisions are made its still very important. The best tool for being proactive with change is communication. It is the key for trust, moral, inspiration, collaboration and many other factors to keep employees happy and working hard for you.

Paragraph 3
The technology revolution has impacted every business from the small business owner to major corporations. Businesses use technology to reduce costs and automates business functions. Technology has not only provided innovative improvement in basic business functions like accounting, communications and data analytics, but the fate of every company regardless of size weighs upon the ability of the company has to research, adapt and respond to innovation.
For example, In the 1990’s Fujifilm, Konica and Kodak were three most successful firms in the film photography industry. The change in photography from film to digital technology impacted these companies. Both Kodak and Konica were not able to adapt and respond effectively to the emergence of digital technology. Both companies were forced out of this industry with the emergence of digital technology. To adapt, Kodak had to merge with Flexitronics to remain in the industry. Konica is no longer in the industry and is now focused on printers and copiers. Fujifilm was successful in adapting to the digital technology and manufactures digital camera and lenses.Â
Developments in technology also influences company functionality. For example, Boeing is using 3-D printing technology to design products in effort to reduce cost and improve their design process. Technology has transform the way data is utilized by businesses given them the ability to study customer behavior to develop closely aligned customer focus sales strategies leading to incredible company growth.
An area in which we all can attest that the innovation of technology has changed for the better is in education. Cloud computing and online classroom technology has been utilized by business like Ashford University to provide the ability of people like us to obtain academic degrees.

Paragraph 4
Think of an innovative company and explain how its ability to adapt has enabled the organization to remain competitive in its industry.
In business, innovation often results when ideas are applied by the company in order to further satisfy the needs and expectations of the customers. I would define an innovative company as one that derives a significant portion of sales and profits from products or services introduced recently. The process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value or for which customers will pay.
One of the first companies that come to mind is Netflix, the company was founded in 1997 by two software engineers. It first started off as users/subscribers being able to rent movies on DVD, this soon would push its way through other move rental stores. What made this service different and able to compete with others way a having a monthly fee and no late charges. Customs were tired of renting a movie for a few dollars and once it became late you might as well have just purchased the DVD yourself. By 2007 you could now steam Netflix using the internet, the company later moved into offering shows that were original to the company itself.
There are now a few other streaming and online companies that offer the same benefits as Netflix but I truly believe that they were able to stand the test of time because they made themselves “remarkable” something that is talked about in this week’s media resource.
