Map Networked Digital Giants

Objective: Through this exercise, students will gain some familiarity with the Crunchbase.com tool, use it for research and understand the capital network behind global digital industries.  

Instructions: research the money network behind digital industries

• choose one of the following companies as you like: Google, Tencent, Alibaba, Snap Inc., Netflix, Uber, Twitter, Baidu, Airbnb, Zoom;
• review the steps of research in Crunchbase.com from the lecture video;
• research into the investors of the company you have chosen:
• record: what/ who are the company's major/ lead investors; where are these investors based; what are the other high-profile investments of these investors.
• Report your findings in the discussion board, following these questions:
  1. What is the company you have chosen? Where is this company based and what is its main businesses?
  2. What have you found in terms of their major investors and background of the investors? What is the one most important finding you’d like to share?
  3. Take a moment to read through other classmates’ posts and leave a thoughtful comment (under other students' posts, not in your own response) that shares one common pattern (i.e. similarity) or connection between your research.
