Step 1: Engage With This Week's Resources

Before writing your post, please complete the following:

Look at the data on charge statistics, the types of cases filed, the recent newsfeed reporting how cases are resolved. You don't need to read everything — just get a feel for the scope of what's there and find something that surprises or interests you.

Step 2: Write Your Initial Post

Your initial post has three required parts.

Part 1 – Discussion Prompt Response (250–350 words)

After reading Chapter 3 and spending some time on the EEOC website, you have access to real data about how discrimination law actually plays out in practice. Here's what I want you to think about:

Start on the EEOC website and find one specific data point, statistic, or case trend that surprises you — something that stands out, raises a question, or challenges an assumption you had going in. Share what you found and where you found it on the site.

Then, using that data point alongside what you learned in Chapter 3, respond to the following:

• How effective has Title VII actually been in reducing workplace discrimination? The law has been on the books for over 60 years — what does the data tell us about whether it's working?
• Why might legal compliance alone not be enough to show that an organization truly values diversity? What's the difference between an organization that follows the law and one that genuinely embraces inclusive practices?

Here's a hint to guide your thinking: the EEOC data on how many cases are filed each year — and how few are actually resolved, and how long resolution takes — tells a powerful story. Let the data speak.

Support your claims with specific evidence from the EEOC website and the chapter. Cite both using APA format.

Part 2 – Your Own Quote (quote + APA citation)

Find a quote from the Chapter 3 reading that resonates with you — something unrelated to the discussion prompt above. Include:

1. The quote — copied accurately, in quotation marks
2. APA citation — author, year, and page number

Part 3 – Your Response to the Quote (100–150 words)

Why did this quote stand out to you? What does it make you think about? What question does it raise for you or for the class?

End your post with a complete APA References sectionfor all sources cited, including the textbook and the EEOC website.

Step 3: Return and Respond to Your Peers Due: Sunday at midnight

After the Thursday posting deadline, return to the discussion board and respond to at least two classmates. Given the busy week, keep your responses focused but genuine — what did your classmate find on the EEOC site that you didn't? Does their data point change or reinforce your thinking?

Plan to visit the discussion board on three separate days:

• Thursday — post your initial response
• Friday or Saturday — read and respond to at least two classmates
• Sunday — follow up on any questions directed to you
