M6
Write, at minimum, a 500-word post addressing at least one of the following leading questions for this week's module. Meaningful and substantive contributions will require 1.) that you carefully read (and reflect on) the material, and 2.) that you think about the arguments, evidence, and interpretations presented in the paper. Remember: You are required to include at least one direct quote from the readings to support your views.
1. If crime rates actually go up in the second and third generations rather than the first, what does that suggest about which "immigration" policies (border enforcement vs. investment in schools, mentorship, and economic opportunity for immigrant families already here) would do more to actually reduce crime long-term?
2. A city's overall crime statistics show no link to immigration, but a specific immigrant neighborhood within that city shows a real drop in crime. If you were a local news editor, how would you responsibly report on "crime in immigrant neighborhoods" given that the citywide number and the neighborhood number tell two different stories? What would be your hypothesis for why variations exist?
3. How could the same immigration-enforcement policy simultaneously reduce offending through deterrence and reduce public safety through system avoidance?
