Write, at minimum, a 500-word post addressing at least one of the following leading questions for this week's module. Meaningful and substantive contributions will require 1.) that you carefully read (and reflect on) the material, and 2.) that you think about the arguments, evidence, and interpretations presented in the paper. Remember: You are required to include at least one direct quote from the readings to support your views.
1. In the first video, the president of Federation of American Immigration Reform, argued that "if someone is here [in America] illegally, by definition, he [or she] has to commit a crime." Pick one of the theoretical perspectives on immigration and crime presented by Kubrin and Ousey (2023) and use that theoretical perspective to explain why this quote appears to be true. Be sure to explain why and how this is the case according to the theory.
2. In terms of theory, pick one perspective to explain why immigration should lead to crime and one perspective to explain why immigration should not lead to crime. For both, be sure to explain why and how the perspectives you have chosen should lead to the results you are suggesting would occur.
3. According to Jessica Vaughan, illegal immigration is closely associated with certain types of crime. She argues that an example of crime that is closely associated with illegal immigration is identity theft. Put simply, illegal immigrants are more likely to engage in the crime of identity theft. Using the neoclassical micro economy theory from Massey et al., (1993) in module 1 and strain theory from Kubrin and Ousey (2023), explain why and how identity theft will have close association with illegal immigrations.
