Write, at minimum, a 500-word post addressing at least one of the following leading questions for this week's module. Meaningful and substantive contributions will require 1.) that you carefully read (and reflect on) the material, and 2.) that you think about the arguments, evidence, and interpretations presented in the paper. Remember: You are required to include at least one direct quote from the readings to support your views.
1. In the documentary on ICE, agent Christine says that "Deportation is not a punitive measure. Deportation is a civil measure." Do you agree with her or not. Pick a side and argue your point out. You may rely upon the arguments in last week's reading (i.e., Juliet Stumpf's 2006 article on crimmigration).
2. Most states bar unauthorized immigrants from driver’s licenses, so driving can itself be a violation they cannot avoid. Police can then treat traffic enforcement as a routine, neutral task, while the authors argue it is “repurposed to discipline immigrants.” Is it legitimate for police to prioritize enforcing laws that a defined group cannot legally satisfy? Which enforcement priority is more sound and effective: expanding license eligibility, limiting arrests for unlicensed driving, or changing stop priorities?
