NOTE: For Odd Module Weeks, we will use the traditional Discussion Board format, with a prompt for each module, your first post due by Wednesday evenings at 9:00 pm ET, and the expectation that you will respond to at least two other posts by others in your DB group. We have divided the class into small DB groups of 5 to make things easier for everyone. This week, for your DB Prompt, please pick one of the assigned readings or videos and answer the following questions: 1. What is the basic structure of the adult lifecycle as envisioned by this culture/group? 2. How does this way of thinking about adult development compare with Western ideas about how we evolve and develop as adults? What are some key differences? Any commonalities?

AI Readings Visualization In Week 3, teaching team member Anthony Meek is continuing to use AI to provide additional context, perspective, and visual support for the readings, with the goal of helping you better understand and connect with the ideas.
If you haven't done so already, please complete this brief survey and share any feedback you have so we can continue improving this resource in future weeks.
Three versions were uploaded to provide additional context and comparison, with ChatGPT used as the platform to create these visuals.

Details
Nota bene: This assignment uses a unique format -- just like Activity A -- there is no submission through Canvas: you add your slides to a shared Google Presentation (see below for details)!
Overview In this week's readings, we see possible Adult Development-like patterns showing up in lots of different places, cultures, historical time periods, and genres of information. Your assignment this week is to find an instance yourself of the patterns of adult development showing up somewhere.
Cast your mind across all of human history and culture (!) and find a place you see adult development at work.
1. Identify a place in human history and culture where you see the patterns of Adult Development at work. 2. Describe the context and reference the source material. 3. Explain how you see your AD instance relating to the adult development patterns we've studied.
Slide Format
1-3 slides in the [Shared Google Presentation] (link provided). Shared Google Presentation linked Here (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1hrGZO1JajBOZpBuCEUbiEzQrWgCpTem8liQqIR0InL4/edit?slide=id.p#slide=id.p) IMPORTANT: Put your name on each slide Design your slides creatively—use images, colors, or layouts that help convey something about your source or are just fun and expressive. Do not edit others’ slides—only add your own. Save a backup (e.g., screenshot) in case of accidental changes.
Guidance & Expectations
This is a experiment — no "perfect" answer exists. Trust your sense of where you think adult development might be at play. Think like a curious private investigator—where are places in culture that people talk about growth and change, or reflect on their own development, or even identify discrete stages or phases? Start with things you are interested in and enjoy thinking about already, or pick places that are exciting to you because they're totally new for you--music genres, movies, anime, historical periods, military history, leadership theory, literature, you name it. Need help? Ask for feedback if unsure—we’re here to support you!
This assignment is meant to be low-pressure and engaging. Trust your insights—you know discover more than you think!
ASSIGNMENT: 6 POINTS TOTAL - to earn full points, follow the rubric below:
1. Identify a place where you see the patterns of Adult Development at work. (2 points)
Clearly identifies and provides references to a distinct moment or instance in human culture or history where adult development patterns (i.e. stages or phases of growth and development) appear.
2. Describe Each Stage and Relate to Adult Development theories (2 points)
Provides a clear, insightful description of the chosen moment or instance.
Shows how the chosen instance or moment relates to one or more of the theories of adult development we're studying in the course.
3. Extra Credit: Unexpected or unique context (1 point)
Choice shocks the teachers with its awesome creativity, unexpected location, uniqueness, or suitability (subjective grading on this one)
4. Creativity & Presentation (1 point)
Slides are visually engaging, well-organized, and demonstrate creativity in design (e.g., images, thoughtful layout).

LP737 Week 3: Adult Development in the Wider World
Overview This week we will leave the normal realm of recent Western academic writing to consider how adult development shows up across cultures, geographies, historical time periods, and belief systems, choosing from an eclectic mix of sources.
As you read these, compare how development seems to be understood in them to how we've seen it described in the models we've seen so far (and your own models in your Life Cycle Maps). Look for patterns that seem to show up across all.
