Literary Analysis

For this assignment, students will write a 3-4 page original essay analyzing one of the major elements of literature (plot, theme, characterization, etc.) or a cultural analysis based upon the selected novel excerpt (  The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,  The Great Gatsby,  Passing, or  The Awakening). Students should be sure to review the Writing About Literature from Pearson link in the Writing About Literature folder under Module Four Assignments, paying careful attention to topic selection and the special rules for writing about literature. In addition, students should carefully review the student sample literary analysis for examples of how to synthesize the original text alongside original analysis and any secondary source(s) used. 

Along with incorporating short, relevant quotes from the student’s chosen novel, the student should integrate peer-reviewed analysis from at least one additional secondary literary analysis, such as one found through NC Live or the FTCC Library. 

Lastly, the literary analysis should be formatted and documented according to MLA 8 th or 9 th ed. guidelines.
