Assignment 1:

From the reading in the Gospel of Mark, the assigned reading Encountering the New Testament, and the course content, answer the following four essay questions for the Gospel of Mark.1) Discuss how Jesus inaugurates and provides evidence of the kingdom of God in the Gospel of Mark. 2) How and why is the ending of Mark (short resurrection ending at Mark 16:8) a fitting and appropriate ending for the gospel?  3) How does the Gospel of Mark answer the question, “Who is Jesus?” 4) Discuss the central theme of the Gospel of Mark. How should this impact and shape our lives as followers of Christ? 

Requirements: Each of the four essay answers should be at least 150 words; use course content, the Bible, and Encountering the New Testament as sources. Submit all four essays in the same document.

From the reading in the Gospel of Matthew, the assigned reading Encountering the New Testament, and the course content, answer the following four essay questions for the Gospel of Matthew: 1) How does the Gospel Matthew emphasize that Jesus is the Messiah and the fulfillment of Old Testament promises? 2) How does Jesus demonstrate authority in the gospel of Matthew? 3) Discuss the significance of Jesus’ teaching ministry in the Gospel of Matthew. How is the Sermon on the Mount the fulfillment and true realization of Old Testament Law? 4) How and why is the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) a fitting and appropriate ending to the Gospel of Matthew?
