1. Let x be the number of units (in thousands) that a company produces and let p(x) be the profit (in tens of thousands of dollars). The following table gives the profit for different levels of production.

x: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22

p(x): -8.8, -14, -23.6, -34.2, -43.5, -55.8, -66.5, -86, 105, -129

(b) Use quadratic regression to find a mathematical model for p(x).

(c) Use the model to predict the profit (in tens of thousands of dol-lars) when 10000 and 11000 units are produced.

(d) Compute the residual= observed value - predicted value when producing 10000 units.
