The purpose of this assignment is for the student to demonstrate competency in identifying, analyzing, and communicating legal issues confronting educational leaders today. 

o Students will individually write a formal paper, four to five pages in length.
o APA formatting, cover page, and references page in addition to the writing content, third person 

voice.
o The writer will provide an in-depth explanation of an important court case that has impacted the 

field of education.
o Identify the case topic, summarize its purpose, how it proceeded through the court system, and 

the impact of the decision on educational practices today.
o Explain how the topic selected has influenced professional practice. Provide specific examples to 

illustrate.
