What Would You Do?

Discuss how you might resolve these situations if you were an officer. I also want you to include which ethical system correlates with your resolutions. (Please provide at least 4 sentences for each situation). Each question must be 100 words each.

*The main ethical systems are  Ethics of Virtue, Natural Law, Religion, Ethical Formalism, Utilitarianism, Ethics of Care & Egoism. You can refer to Chapter 2 in your textbook or the Chapter 2 PowerPoint from Week 2 for an explanation of the ethical systems 

1. It is ten minutes to off-duty time. You see an accident. Do you work the accident even though you want to go home, or do you avoid the accident by sneaking around it?

2. You have received the same 911 call from the same location at least twenty times. Each time it has been unfounded. You have just been dispatched to respond to that 911 call again. Should you check it or just clear it as unfounded without driving by?

3. If a young boy, upset over a lost bicycle, approaches you during your dinner, what do the strict guidelines of your job dictate? What is the ethical thing to do? Should you immediately interrupt your dinner and go search for the missing bicycle? Should you take a report to make the boy feel better, knowing you won’t or can’t do anything about it? Should you tell the boy to go away because you’ve had a hard night and are looking forward to a hot meal?

4. Your partner and you respond to a 911 call about a fight. You arrive at the scene and find two men fighting. Your partner tries to stop them and gets hurt in the process. The men do not stop fighting, and your partner continues to intervene with increasing force. What do you do? Why?
