I – Issue

The issue is the legal question the court needs to answer. It usually starts with whether or does. You are identifying the problem raised by the facts.

A – Application (or Analysis)

The application explains how the rule applies to the specific facts of the problem. This is where most of your writing goes. You connect the facts to the law and explain why the rule leads toward a particular result.

C – Conclusion

The conclusion answers the issue based on your analysis. It should be short and directly respond to the legal question.
