answer these questions following the rubric :

 

• How does language play a part in human identity and identities? What roles does language play in how we identify ourselves, how we identify others, and how others identify us as people? Be sure to discuss gender, racial, and ethnic identities, but also any other identities relevant to your discussion post that we hold (class, education, student, Philadelphian, immigrant, etc.) Can our identity be separated from our language? Can our language be separated from our identity?

 

Expectations for your individual post:

• Consists of 2-3 substantial, thoughtful, and well-organized paragraphs directly addressing the prompt
• Incorporate ideas from at least 3 of the readings listed on the syllabus under readings for discussion board of that week
• Ideas, paraphrasing, and quotation must be cited completely and properly according to APA style (otherwise it is plagiarism)

o  Must use in text citations in your paragraphs when referencing readings

o  Must include reference section at the end with full citations of all readings used in post

• Do not incorporate personal beliefs, experiences, or opinions
• This is meant to be a more academically rigorous discussion based on textual analysis of scholarly readings
• Personal experiences and opinions will be shared through the blog assignments and personal reflection essay

 The videos and materials posted for this blog are about how language plays into our identity in the context of education. Education is one of the largest and most powerful social institutions in the U.S. In this blog consider the material for this week and explore how language discrimination and identity shape human experience in the context of institutions. These materials are about education and you can focus your blog on educational contexts, but you may also you this material to build a blog around other institutions such as law, medicine, the military, or others.
