Writing Assignment #1:

Journal Article Review essay, JAR assignment. The "grading criteria" (below) describes how the 175 points for the journal article review assignment will be dispersed. The criteria and rubric are meant as guides to describe how those points will be assessed.

• APA format is fine, but not required for this paper.

• Use the required INFORMAL title page so that you have two full pages for the paper (header is not required). On the title page, include your name, a proper APA citation of the article you are reviewing, and an exact copy of your thesis statement from your review.

• Repeat: Include your thesis statement on the title page. This single-sentence argument on your title page should be identical to the thesis statement in the introductory paragraph of your paper.

• You do not need a formal Reference Page. You do need to include a proper APA citation of the article you are reviewing on the title page of your paper.

• Do not use quotes. This is a short paper and must contain only original writing.

• Do not write in the first-person narrative style (use of words such as I, mine, my, ours, we, etc.). The paper needs to be about the article, social work theory, and the themes and concepts from the class and how they all relate to practice. While you are the one making an argument about all of this, the paper is NOT about the reviewer.

• It should be double-spaced with standard font and margins.

• Two page maximum! Only the first two pages will be graded.
